Second seed Sun Yingsha lost 3–1 to world No. 101 Thai qualifier Orawan Paranang in the China Smash women's singles second round on October 7, 2026, according to Chinese publication Beijing Daily. Chinese news agency Xinhua reports that Sun won the opening game 11–8 before losing the next three 4–11, 10–12 and 10–12.[1][2]

Beijing Daily notes that this was Sun's first second-round exit at a WTT Smash, following her previous lowest finish in the last 16 at the 2025 United States Smash. It was also her first defeat in four meetings with Paranang, the publication reports.[1]

In her post-match account reported by Xinhua, Sun said she had a fever the night before the match. She said she had travelled straight from the Asian Games to China Smash and that the Games' packed schedule and intensity had taken a substantial physical toll. Sun also praised Paranang's preparation and performance, saying her opponent had played extremely well.[2]

Xinhua reports that Sun plans to spend more than half a month recovering, first restoring her health and then improving her physical conditioning. Beijing Daily reports that she still intends to compete at WTT Champions Montpellier, which starts on October 27 local time. Sun told Xinhua that her condition remained manageable and that she was cooperating with treatment, asking supporters for encouragement rather than excessive worry.[2][3]
