Japanese players planning to enter WTT Champions could miss the 2027 All Japan Championships, the Japan Table Tennis Association (JTTA) has warned. The WTT event in Asia is scheduled for January 19–24, 2027, overlapping the national championships. The JTTA said it had urged the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) and WTT to change the schedule, but the clash remains unresolved.[1][2]

Under JTTA criteria, the two highest-ranked Japanese players in the first ITTF singles world rankings published in January 2028 will be Japan’s candidates for singles and team competition at Los Angeles 2028. The association says the points available at this WTT Champions event also affect mixed-team seeding.[2]

JTTA also considers moving the All Japan Championships, but judges a change impractical because of the impact on the venue, tournament operations and those involved.[2]
