Tomokazu Harimoto retained his Asian Championships men's singles title on October 25, beating China's Li Tianyang 3–2 after losing the first two games. The result made him the first Japanese man in 52 years to win consecutive editions of the men's singles event.[1][2]

Li mixed chopping with attacking play to win the opening game 11–1. He took a 5–1 lead in the second and, after the scores reached 9–9, won it 11–9 to move two games clear.[2]

Harimoto then took the third and fourth games 11–7 and 11–8 to force a decider. From 7–7 in the fifth, he won the final four points to close out the match 11–7.[2]
